Freelance Software Engineer & Tax Researcher

Creator of TaxCalc.asia

I'm a freelance software engineer who has worked remotely across Southeast Asia since 2019. Along the way I ran into the same problem many freelancers do: tax tools are built for the US or Europe, while the rules that actually apply to us, TRAIN Law in the Philippines, PPh Final in Indonesia, Form B in Malaysia, Section 44ADA in India, are scattered across government websites and PDF circulars.

TaxCalc.asia started as a personal spreadsheet. It is now a set of free calculators and guides covering six Asian countries. I research the rules, implement the tax engines, and write the explanations myself.

How I research and verify tax content

Every calculator and guide starts with the primary source: the tax authority's published regulations, rate tables, and filing instructions. I do not rely on secondary summaries when an official document is available.

  • Primary sources. BIR, DJP, LHDN, Thailand's Revenue Department, Vietnam's GDT, and India's Income Tax Department.
  • Rule-by-rule implementation. Brackets, deductions, thresholds, and regime eligibility are coded directly from the published rules.
  • Transparent assumptions. Where a rule is ambiguous or depends on local practice, the guide says so instead of hiding it.
  • Corrections. If a reader finds an error, I investigate it against the official source and update the page.

What I write about

Freelance income tax, registration, invoicing, deductions, and cross-border issues for freelancers and remote workers in the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and India. The goal is practical: show what you owe, why, and which official rule applies.

Corrections and contact

Tax rules change. If you spot an outdated rate or a procedure that no longer matches your local tax office, email hello@taxcalc.asia. Include the country, the page, and the official source if you have it. Corrections are reviewed against the primary source before publishing.

Read the editorial policy for the full sourcing and review process, or see about TaxCalc.asia.
